Before You Book: Hand, Finger, Foot & Face Tattoos
This page exists so you can make an informed decision — not to put you off, but to give you the full picture.
At The Cheshire Tattoo Studio, honesty comes first.
Some tattoo placements look great on Instagram, but in real life they come with limitations that every client deserves to understand before booking in.

Hand & Finger Tattoos
Hand and finger tattoos are some of the least long‑lasting tattoos you can get.
The skin on the hands and fingers:
* Regenerates faster than most areas of the body
* Is constantly moving, stretching and flexing
Is exposed to frequent washing, chemicals, friction and UV
Because of this, fading, patchiness and even complete loss of ink is normal and expected.
Small symbols, fine line designs, writing, hearts and names are particularly prone to disappearing — often within months.
Most people you see with solid hand and finger tattoos are heavily tattooed elsewhere and have their hands regularly topped up when they return for other work. That ongoing maintenance is part of the reality of these placements.
Hand and finger tattoos should be considered temporary unless you plan for future top‑ups.
Foot Tattoos
Foot tattoos come with similar — and sometimes worse — longevity issues.
Feet:
* Experience constant pressure and friction
* Are often covered by shoes and socks
* Heal inconsistently due to circulation and movement
As a result, foot tattoos frequently fade unevenly, blur, or drop out entirely. Even well‑applied tattoos can struggle to heal cleanly in this area.
Like hands and fingers, foot tattoos often require maintenance to keep them looking presentable.
Face Tattoos
Face tattoos are permanent in a very different way — not because they last better, but because they affect every part of your life.
Things to seriously consider:
* Employment and career limitations
* Social and family impact
* Visibility that cannot be hidden or easily reversed
* Ageing of facial skin over time
While facial skin can sometimes hold ink better than hands or feet, the consequences of regret are far greater.
For this reason, face tattoos are not taken lightly and may be declined depending on experience level, reasoning, and personal circumstances.
Top‑Ups & Touch‑Ups
Top‑ups on hands, fingers, feet and face are not free.
Fading in these areas is expected and is not a fault of the tattoo or the artist. Any complimentary touch‑up offered is discretionary and does not change the long‑term behaviour of the skin.

Our Approach
We would always rather:
* Say no
* Delay a decision
* Or suggest a different placement than give unrealistic expectations.
If you choose to proceed with any of these placements, you will be asked to complete extended consent forms confirming that you understand:
* Longevity cannot be guaranteed
* Fading will occur
* Future maintenance may be required

Final Thoughts
Tattoos are permanent — but not all placements behave the same.
Our job isn’t just to tattoo you; it’s to make sure you don’t regret the decision later.
Take your time, ask questions, and use this information to decide what’s right for you.
If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to talk it through.
